Our 2009 Dressage Princess, Debra Burris, and her mare, Gusty (One Dun Blonde) finished in the top 5 in the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activity Program (ACAAP) in Dressage for 2008. ACAAP is a national program for open showing your registered Appy. They also got their Certificate of Acheivement in Dressage for earning 20+ lifetime points in Dressage. They have also earned points in English Pleasure, English Equitation, Halter, Showmanship and Speed. WAY TO GO, PRINCESS!!
We just learned at the June show that Debra lost 7 horses by lightening during the recent storms. She told me that some of them she had raised from birth. We are so sorry to hear of your loss.
Jana Nelson received the Dressage Foundation Carol Lavelle Gifted Scholarship and took her horse, Austin Chase to train with Allyson Rodgers for a week in May. It is not our usual policy to post things not concerning Arkansas dressage and/or ADS member news but since this is a rather urgent plea for help for horses (and maybe a chance to acquire a possible dressage horse) and it concerns Arkansas, I am posting this from Texas' Bluebonnet Equine Rescue- click here
note: I get a LOT of email from this and other related groups but ADS will not do email "blasts" to our members unless it directly concerns ADS and its functions. Instead, I may post something here on the website from time to time.

| MID-YEAR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING! What a great time we had at the potluck on Saturday night at Jim Pat and Diana Beaird's beautiful house! We had 15 people in attendance which is about what we usually run in our summertime meeting. We had shrimp, BBQ, at least 5 kinds of salad, a fruit tray, and cake and homemade cookies and chips and dips and sandwiches and everything was so good. The informal business meeting was conducted poolside and was mercifully short and easy. We passed the updated bylaws and Debra Burris very generously offered to sponsor 4 breed rosettes for our rated show - Stock Horse, App, AQHA, and Paint - to encourage a wider appeal. I got to meet Catherine Swift, a new member from Conway. I gave a report on getting an Adult Amateur grant from the Dressage Foundation and a musical freestyle "workshop". I think we will be seeing some fun stuff from some of our members in the coming show season - there was a lot of good input! After that, we watched the Belmont Stakes and the 2009 Dressage World Cup Finals on Jim Pat's big ol' TV and just hung around and talked and had fun. YOU SHOULD BE SORRY YOU MISSED IT!!!! |
Remember, volunteer opportunities are available year round - just contact the appropriate team or any board member.
Team membership or ADS Board membership automatically covers your volunteer requirement. The ADS board meets at Frostop on JFK the second Thursday of each month at 6:30. Train for next year's board!

| MEMBERSHIP DRIVE!! Looking for any rider/member with a love for horses that is interested in growing our sport and membership of the Arkansas Dressage Society. If you are interested, please join me on a committee to find new ways to pique the interest of potential new members. This is a great opportunity to be creative and "be all you can be" for the great sport of riding. The meeting will be on or around March 12 and the location will be TBA (depending on the residency of participants). Please feel free to pass the word - even without taking part in any meetings. What could be more enjoyable than a bunch of horse loving folks to get together with? Have a great day and I look forward to seeing you! - Marion Franz -Pres. |
